Five books that will stay with you for a long time

Books are powerful tools that can make you feel a wide range of emotions . A good book can literally make your day while a bad one can make you reach for the headache pill on your bedside.

A powerful writer will not just grab your attention and drag you into the world he/she has created but also make you go through all the emotions their characters are going through be it dizzying happiness or gut wrenching pain. These are the books that with their brilliant writing ,excellent plot and fabulous characters will stay with you for a long time if not forever.

Today I’m going to list five books that have successfully managed to embed themselves into my brain.

Transcendence By Shay Savage

Step into the shoes of a normal college going girl Elizabeth who is one minute looking at a strange equipment in the museum and boom ! the next minute she is tossed into the pre historic times. Luckily , there is a caveman who knows how to survive the harsh wilderness and takes her to his cave so she doesn’t get attacked by all the dangerous animals roaming around .

This strong caveman is capable of vocalizing only a few sounds and neither has his brain evolved enough to understand language. He identifies himself as Ehd. He considers Elizabeth as his mate who obviously rejects his primitive advances. They gradually slip into a regular routine where he goes out to hunt and she collects herbs before they both return to cave together by evening. The way Ehd cares for her makes Elizabeth see him in a different light than a savage and she slowly starts falling for him.

The meaningful silences they share and their simple gestures of affection towards each other makes this story very heart warming and a thousand times interesting to read because despite the non existence of any language between Elizabeth and Ehd you can’t help but feel and cheer for the deep love these two share.

Making faces By Amy Harmon

This story is a modern take on the classic beauty and the beast where the beast had once been a very handsome high school boy who has always been gentle and confident but his life takes a drastic turn that results in not just psychological but also physical damage that ruins his face. He now is a man whose confidence is gone and he bears deep emotional scars as he confines himself to shadows and isolation until the Fern who has been in love with him since high school comes along with her best friend Bailey who has hilarious sense of humor and believes in living life king size despite being bound to wheelchair. Together they draw the beast out of the shadows and help him return to his own self.

This is a heart warming story of love, sorrow , friendship , heroism and loss .Amy Haron’s writing style is beautiful and amazing as she immerses you in the sea of emotions her characters are feeling and you know a writer is beyond amazing when she makes you fall for even the side characters and laugh when they laugh and cry when they cry, because trust me there is no way a human being can have no emotional reaction to this heart warming story.

Some boys by Patty Blount

Ever since Grace has accused the town’s golden boy ,Zac , of rape she has been facing social boycott . She tries her best to stand against all the negativity and insults and remain strong in face of her schoolmates and her father himself who doubts her . Only Ian sees through her armor of sarcasm and stubbornness ,Ian . He is sweet and funny ,and he also happens to be the best friend of the boy who raped her.

Grace intends to bring the truth to light while Ian who knows has feelings for her just the same as she has for him does not know who to side with — the girl he has fallen for or his best friend who claims to be innocent.

The storm of emotions these characters stir inside you and the cruel ways of the society which is a unfortunately too good at victim blaming will make you you want to keep either a punching bag or tissue box handy because this story will have you oscillating like a demented pendulum between rage and sobs .

Archer’s voice by Mia Sheridan

Archer and Bree , two people who have had tragic pasts . Bree is psychologically scarred and a Archer has lost his voice in a terrible childhood accident.

Bree seeks peace in a small town and Archer is a man who lives a life of isolation. They both have their own secrets and struggles yet they gradually fall in love with each other and you can’t help but obsessively ship them together because they are both amazing and the chemistry between them is scorching. Archer is the kind of character who can overshadow every other fictional guy you are in love with (trust me,I have a list of them ).He is heart meltingly gentle , sweet , kind , caring and every other good adjective you can think of, while Bree is an amazing female protagonist who is a delight to read about.

The tragedy and the horrors they both go through will make you wish you could step into the book and set everything alright ,if not that, then curl into a corner and yell at the universe at the injustice they have gone through ( I chose the second option because the first one just isn’t possible)

This story with its beautifully created characters, excellent plot and flawless pacing has the power to rip your heart out of your chest and also put it back in ( because that’s what a good book is capable of doing). From laughing to crying I had gone through every emotion known to humankind with this one.

In short ,this book is a masterpiece , read it already !

Psychopath’s prey by VF Mason

Shock , shock, shock and massive shock …….this is what this story has filled me with.

A dark love story of a serial killer and a criminal psychologist, what could be more intriguing ?

The writing is phenomenal. The psychopath’s character is scary enough to give me goosebumps yet I find myself sympathizing with him because of his childhood that had involved nothing but violence ,abuse and blood.

Ella , the female protagonist suffers from childhood trauma of her own and tries her best to be strong and gritty but she is vulnerable and the psychopath has labeled her as his ‘prey’ and he won’t stop until he has lured her into his trap. (Who wouldn’t want to read something like this ?)

I’m simply in awe of the way V.F Mason’s brain works . She has delivered equal shares of thrills and chills through her complicated characters and mind blowing story . I don’t think I’ll ever forget this story, even sixty years down the line when I’m an old grandma sitting in a rocking chair .
